4. Match Secretary’s Report
Derek was taken ill and unable to attend. The Captain summarised a very successful season and thanked the contributions of Derek and our Match Managers which made it all possible.
5. Competition Secretary’s Report – R Sayer
We have had another good year of well contested competitions with prizes widely spread amongst the membership.
I am very grateful to Martin and Brad in the office for setting all the competitions up on the Club System and to David Bubloz for handling the money side of things.
The knockout competitions are now also set up on the website on the same page as the Club knockouts. If any of you still have problems as how to enter the knockout competitions please let me know and I will help you
With an increasing number of members the entries for our strokeplay competitions have increased markedly. In view of this as of April 1st we will be operating 3 divisions when the entry level reaches 50. These divisions will be Handicaps 0-18, 18-22, 23 plus. The trophy will go to the best score overall regardless of division. Prize money will be shared equally by the 3 divisions regardless of the numbers playing in each division.
After many years of keeping the entry fee to £2 it has been decided to increase this now to £4.
All the competitions now will be played from the yellow tees. We have tee times reserved from 8am to 10am . However entry to the competition is still valid at any time before 12 noon. There are usually tee times available just before and just after the reserved spots if you get online early in the morning 3 weeks prior to the competition.
6. Treasurer’s Report
Richard Dyson as the outgoing treasurer summarised his time as treasurer as only he could. He explained why we decided to move our account to Metro Bank. Dave Boys thanked him for the work that he has done and presented him with a jar of honey.
The accounts for 2022 were circulated to all members ahead of the meeting. Ray Dennett noted a spelling correction which will be made. Tom Bishop raised two queries. In response to the first members subs have been correctly assigned and it is noted that subs for 2023 should have been recorded as “payments in advance” on the Assets statement.
Tom’s second query related to the level of funds held in the accounts. A debate ensued considering the appropriate level at which to maintain funds. The incoming treasurer agreed to take this point away to reach an agreement with the committee and to report back to the next AGM.
7. Outgoing Captain’s Report
Dave started by commenting on the great welcoming attitude and fellowship of the Vets. With membership growing to over 140 in his year as Captain. He lamented the sad passing of David Johnson (Past Captain) and David Gillard. He thanked the membership secretary and presented him with a jar of honey.
Moving on to the matches we finished the season Won 20, halved 3, lost 9. We reclaimed the trophies for the matches against Worthing and Littlehampton.
He mentioned the club’s success in the DSWL which has many Vets in its teams and a desire to maintain the resurrected fixture with the ladies.
Competitions were well supported throughout the year and thanks was given to Richard Sayer for his work as Competitions Secretary. His Captain’s day was a great success with a draw for partners raising £391 for the Martletts charity.
The only low spot was the cancellation of the Christmas Comp and lunch due to adverse weather SNOCLO.

9. Handover

He noted how Dave had been a very good Captain, leading from the front and being visible. He noted that the Vets are all that is good about the Dyke Golf Club. He urged all Vets to take part in the upcoming club elections.
Richard explained how he will be playing an active part this year liaising with the Match Managers to ensure that all Vets who wish to play in the matches will get equal consideration but that priority will initially be given to new members and then to members who make themselves available for the home matches as well as the away fixtures.
