In the event of adverse conditions at the start of a competition the decision to delay or cancel will rest with the person who is highest on the following list. He will consult with other members of the list and take into consideration the best available information.
Captain
Competitions secretary
Vice-Captain
Secretary
Other committee members
If the decision is to delay, a time for reconsideration (not more than an hour later) will be made and a further review made at that time. If the decision is to cancel then the Secretary will endeavour to rearrange the fixture with the Office as soon as possible. Whatever the decision, it must be communicated to the members, a notice placed on the notice board and the Pro informed as soon as possible.
Conditions that merit a decision.
1) Thunder storms in the vicinity
2) Heavy rain
3) Very strong winds
4) Snow
5) Fog
6) Temporary greens in use
1) Thunder and lightning in the vicinity is definitely a reason for delay until the storm has passed. If the forecast is for the storms to continue then cancellation might be the right decision.
2) Rain of itself should not be a reason for delay or cancellation. If the rain is excessively heavy then delay or cancellation should be considered.
3) Wind is normal at the Dyke and should not be a reason for delay or cancellation unless it is extremely strong when delay or cancellation may be considered.
4) Snow can obviously make play virtually impossible and so a decision on delay or cancellation should be made.
5) Fog. Playing in reduced visibility can be dangerous. If the first bunker cannot be seen from the first tee then delay or cancellation should be considered.
6) Temporary greens in use. A qualifying competition cannot be played using temporary greens. An estimate of the time at which the normal greens will be in use should be acquired and a decision made based on this.
Any individual who feels that he does not want to play in the conditions of the day, or accept the decision of the person charged with making it, then he is free to resign from the competition.
A minimum of 12 entries (ie names in the book and fee paid) for a competition to be valid.
